Text description provided by the architects. Nicholas Hare Architects designed Joseph Chamberlain College in Birmingham, a multi-award winning project, which involved the relocation of an enlarged college to a prominent site with views over the city. As well as academic space, there is a new community sports facility, a learning resource centre, performing arts facilities, a cafe and social spaces.
The project won a RIBA Award, a RIBA/LSC Further Education Design Excellence Award and the British Construction Industry : Prime Minister's Better Public Building Award in 2009. The Rt Hon Gordon Brown MP said "Students, teachers and all those working and living around the college can take great pride in this first-class building. I am sure it will inspire all who use it and make a real difference to the community.” Former Principal Lynne Morris said: “It has been a joy to watch the response of our students, speechless for once, as they explore the spaces, protected by the handsome crescent and courtyard design.”
